We have a vision for a neighborhood that heals, not harms.
Meet CANDO: the Central Area Neighborhood Development Organization.
Central is a historically Black neighborhood home to vibrant cultural and linguistic diversity, situated in the heart of south Minneapolis on the ancestral lands of the Dakota people. The Central neighborhood is defined by the borders of I-35W to the west, Chicago Ave to the east, Lake Street to the north and 38th Street to the south.
We connect neighbors and business owners to both resources, opportunities and one another!
Our primary bodies of work include grassroots food justice organizing with our program Plant-Grow-Share (PGS) and antiracist organizing through the South Central Minneapolis Antiracism Coalition (SMAC).
In addition to organizing neighbors around food and antiracism, our staff work in deep partnership to help uplift resources that support the livability of our community (affordable housing, safety, connectedness) and assist our neighbors with making their voice heard by elected officials.
We believe in uplifting our shared humanity - block by block, neighbor by neighbor.
Will you join us?
